Upload a Photo or Video — Earn Rule Example
Award extra loyalty points for photo and video reviews. The exact fields, a worked stacked example, and how the three UGC rules combine on one review.
Two rules, one idea: pay more for the reviews that show the product. A photo review converts better than a written one, and it costs you the difference in points.
Where: Settings → Earn points → Create rule → User Generated Content → Upload a Photo or Upload a Video
What they do
Award points when a customer attaches media to a review.
- Upload a Photo — awards once per review that includes at least one image.
- Upload a Video — awards once per review that includes at least one video.
Once per review, whatever the file count. A review with ten photos awards Upload a Photo a single time. Editing and republishing a review doesn’t award again either.
Like Write a Review, the points land when the review publishes.
The fields
Both rules take the same shape:
| Section | Field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rule Name | Rule Name | Required. E.g. Add a photo — 150 bonus points. |
| Rule reward | Points | Required. |
| Eligibility Period | Start / end date | Optional. |
| Points Holding Period | Number of days | Optional — one of the four rules that honours it. |
| Earning Limits | Maximum uses per customer + Frequency | Worth capping. |
| Inclusions & exclusions | Customer tags, products | Optional. |
| Rule Status | Active / Disabled |
The stack — and why you price it, not each rule
All three UGC rules can pay on a single review, because they’re three different rule types matching three different things. A customer who writes a review and attaches a photo and a video earns all three awards.
So price the total, then split it:
| Rule | Points | Running total for one review |
|---|---|---|
| Write a Review | 100 | 100 |
| Upload a Photo | 150 | 250 |
| Upload a Video | 250 | 500 |
That’s a deliberate 500-point ceiling — one full reward for the single most valuable thing a customer can give you, a video review. Set each rule in isolation and you can arrive at that number by accident.
Worked example: a photo bonus
- Go to Settings → Earn points and click Create rule.
- Under User Generated Content, choose Upload a Photo.
- Fill in:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rule Name | Add a photo — 150 bonus points |
| Points | 150 |
| Earning Limits | Maximum uses 4, Frequency Month |
| Rule Status | Active |
- Save. Repeat for Upload a Video at a higher value.
Match the cap to your review rule. If Write a Review is capped at four a month, cap these the same way, or the media bonus becomes the loophole in the cap you set.
Pay more for video than photo. A video is meaningfully harder to make and meaningfully better at selling. If they’re worth the same, you’ll get photos.
Tips
- Say the bonus in the rule name. “Add a photo — 150 bonus points” tells a customer mid-review exactly what another thirty seconds is worth.
- Turn on the storefront review form so shoppers can attach media where they’re already reading reviews. (See Adding Reorbit to your storefront.)
- Group your variants so a photo review appears on every colourway of the same product. (See Creating Review Groupings.)
- Watch the total, not the parts. Add the three UGC rules together before you launch and check you’re happy paying that for one review.
FAQ
Does a review with five photos pay five times?
No — once per review.
Can someone add a photo to an old review to earn again?
No. Attaching media to an existing review doesn’t create a fresh earning event.
Do the three UGC rules really stack?
Yes, because they’re different rule types. Two rules of the same type never stack — there, the higher-paying one pays and the other stands down.
When do the points arrive?
When the review publishes, the same as the review rule.
