Order Milestone — Earn Rule Example
Award bonus points when a customer reaches a total number of orders. The exact fields, a worked 5th-order example, and how to build a milestone ladder.
Bonus points when a customer’s lifetime order count reaches a number you set. A reward for staying, not for spending.
Where: Settings → Earn points → Create rule → Orders → Order Milestone
What it does
Awards points when the customer’s total number of orders reaches your threshold. It looks at their whole history with you, not the current order’s value.
The fields
| Section | Field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rule Name | Rule Name | Required. E.g. 5th order bonus — 500 points. |
| Rule reward | Points | Required. The bonus. |
| Rule reward | Minimum Total Orders | Required. The order count that triggers it. |
| Eligibility Period | Start / end date | Optional. |
| Points Holding Period | Number of days | Leave at 0. Order rules ignore it. |
| Earning Limits | Maximum uses per customer + Frequency | Set Lifetime — a milestone is reached once. |
| Inclusions & exclusions | Customer tags, products | Optional. |
| Rule Status | Active / Disabled |
Worked example: a three-step milestone ladder
Most customers who order three times order many more. The trick is getting them to three. Three rules, each a rung:
Rule 1 — the third order
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rule Name | 3rd order bonus — 250 points |
| Points | 250 |
| Minimum Total Orders | 3 |
| Earning Limits | Frequency Lifetime |
Rule 2 — the fifth order
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rule Name | 5th order bonus — 500 points |
| Points | 500 |
| Minimum Total Orders | 5 |
| Earning Limits | Frequency Lifetime |
Rule 3 — the tenth order
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rule Name | 10th order bonus — 1,500 points |
| Points | 1500 |
| Minimum Total Orders | 10 |
| Earning Limits | Frequency Lifetime |
Each rule is created the same way: Settings → Earn points → Create rule → Orders → Order Milestone, then Save.
Why the jumps get steeper. 250, 500, 1,500 — the reward accelerates faster than the effort, so the ladder pulls harder the further up it someone is. A flat 250 at every rung is a ladder that gets less interesting as you climb it.
Set Lifetime on every one. A milestone that could pay twice isn’t a milestone.
Tips
- Anchor the first rung early. Third order, not tenth. The rung nobody reaches rewards nobody.
- Name the rung in the rule name. Customers reading the widget should see the ladder, not three similar-looking rules.
- These pay alongside your baseline rule. A milestone bonus and points per amount spent are different rule types matching different things, so the order earns both.
- Consider VIP tiers for the top end. Past ten orders, status usually motivates more than another lump of points. (See Setting Up VIP Tiers.)
FAQ
Do orders from before I installed Reorbit count?
The rule reads the customer’s total order count as Reorbit knows it after your store data sync, so imported history counts.
What if someone is already past the threshold when I create the rule?
They qualify on their next order, not retroactively.
Can one order trigger two milestones?
Only if it crosses two thresholds at once, which needs an unusual history. Each rule pays at most once per customer with Lifetime set.
