Creating a Reward Rule (Redeem Points) in Reorbit

Let your customers spend the points they’ve earned — on discounts, free shipping, free products, and gift cards.

What is a Reward Rule?

A Reward Rule (also called a redeem or spend rule) defines what a customer can exchange their loyalty points for. Each rule turns a number of points into a specific reward — for example, “500 points = $5 off” — and appears in your loyalty widget for customers to claim at checkout.

You can run as many reward rules at once as you like. Your active rules appear on the Reward Rules page.

Reward types

When you create a rule, you choose from the following reward types:

Reward typeWhat the customer gets
Fixed Amount DiscountA set dollar amount off their order (e.g. $10 off).
Variable DiscountA sliding discount where the customer chooses how many points to redeem.
Percentage Off DiscountA percentage off their order (e.g. 15% off).
Free ShippingShipping costs waived on their order.
Free ProductA specific product added free.
Gift CardA store gift card for a set value.

Before you start

  • Make sure your loyalty program is set up under Configure, and that customers are earning points (see Creating an Earn Rule).
  • Decide how many points each reward should cost.
  • Decide whether the reward should be available to everyone or only to customers in a certain VIP tier.

Step-by-step: create a Reward Rule

1. Open the Reward Rules page

From the app, go to Configure → Rewards. You’ll see a summary (“You have X active rules”) and your existing rewards.

2. Start a new rule

Click Create Rule in the top-right corner. A Select Rule Type window opens listing every available reward type.

3. Choose a reward type

Click the reward you want to offer (for example, Percentage Off Discount). Reorbit opens the configuration page for that reward.

4. Configure the reward

Each reward type has its own settings — for example the discount amount or percentage, the points cost, and how the reward is described in your widget. Fill in the fields shown for your chosen type.

Restrict to a VIP tier (optional). Every reward has a tier gate setting. Leave it open to offer the reward to all customers, or select a minimum tier so only customers at that tier or above can redeem it.

5. Save

When you make a change, a Save bar appears at the top of the page. Click Save to publish the reward, or Discard to undo your changes. After saving, you’ll return to the Reward Rules page and the new reward appears with an Active badge.

Managing existing rewards

On the Reward Rules page, each reward has a ⋯ (More actions) menu:

  • Edit — change any setting; saving updates the live reward.
  • Delete — permanently removes the reward (customers can no longer redeem it).

A reward’s badge shows its state: Active (available to customers) or Disabled (saved but hidden).

Tips & best practices

  • Anchor your points economy. Decide what one point is worth (e.g. 100 points = $1) and price every reward consistently so the program feels fair.
  • Use Free Shipping as an entry reward. It’s a low-cost, high-perceived-value first redemption that gets customers into the habit.
  • Gate premium rewards behind VIP tiers to give your best customers a reason to climb.
  • Offer a Variable Discount if you want customers to redeem points at their own pace rather than saving for one big reward.

FAQ

Where do customers redeem their points? In your loyalty widget on the storefront. Active reward rules appear there automatically once saved.

Can I limit a reward to my best customers? Yes — use the tier gate on the reward and set a minimum VIP tier. Only customers at that tier or above will see and be able to redeem it.

What’s the difference between a Fixed Amount and a Variable Discount? A Fixed Amount Discount is a set value for a set number of points. A Variable Discount lets the customer choose how many points to spend, scaling the discount accordingly.

Why can’t a customer redeem a reward? Check that the reward’s status is Active, that the customer has enough points, and that the reward isn’t gated to a VIP tier the customer hasn’t reached.
